NaBloPoMo Post 2 – Favorite Author

This is my NaBloPoMo Post for Tuesday, August 2, 2011

Today’s Prompt:  Who is your favorite author?

My first response to this question is to express how difficult it would be for me to choose just one as a favorite.  But, I wanted a more exact answer than that.

Over the years, as my reading preferences matured and visited various genres, my nominations for favorite author changed with each new venue.  I think I will always pick Agatha Christie and Peter Robinson.  (Never mind the glaring differences in eras.)  There is a list of “classical” authors I could post.  But, since having tried this writing activity myself, I have a new perspective.  I appreciate the “big name” successful authors and I will always have my favorites among them that I will continue to faithfully read.

But my pick for my favorite author is Altonian, to me, he’s Papa Leigh.  He writes the stories and poems I like to read, the ones that make me laugh and the ones that make me cry.  I don’t know why he’s not as famous as any of the celebrity authors.  I figure it’s probably because he spent most of his time working and being a good husband and father to his family first.  He always makes time to listen to me – me with my insecurities, inexperienced and “newbie” questions as I try and put my own words onto paper, or screen as the case may be.  All the while still entertaining his readers with his writing.

You can read what my favorite author writes here Scandic Sequences and here Altonian's Tales.

  1. What a great choice! It's good to have an author you can talk with and can enjoy his writings.

Like you, my favorite author changes with what genre I'm reading. Currently I'm loving Robert Heinlein's sci-fi.

  2. I will go with the one that popped into my head, Frederick Buechner. His fiction is grand, his theology helped me see that religion in a new way, and his memoirs helped me to heal.
