ROW80 First Check-In October 9, 2011

If you are looking for my #REN3 Part 1 Post - The Meeting...it's at this link. Thank you :-)

I am new to the Round of Words in 80 Days. And I'm actually going to make it in just under the wire for today's Sunday check-in post. But, I really want to get started on this. Sooooo, my goal - Initially, at least - for the next >80 days:

・To write 1000 words a day which can be split up in my personal Journal, blog posts, and stories. Along with that, is the goal to post something to my blogs, Writings, and Nameless Series, each week.

I like to keep my bloggy-type stuff here. My actual written pieces I keep on WordPress and have links to them at the bottom of this blog. I just seem to do better (at least organizationally) keeping them clearly separate.

Well, it's a starting place anyway.
Thank you.

My First Poem

This is the first poem I have written. It's written from my kitties' perspective for my Mo Cats Post on Kwee Cats blog.

Our Mumsy had a little kitty...
One that was a stray...

Mumsy fed her, and loved her
and Miss Duchess decided to stay.
She is now matriarch, free with no pay
Here she rules all she may survey.

Domino was being abused by some children.
So, from them, Cat Daddy Junior took him away.
Domino decided this is a good place
to live, sleep and play.

Poor Oliver was tossed out, thrown away.
His pretty long fur matted with dirt and clay.
He was so sweet, Mumsy asked him to please stay
Now he gives her hugs every day.

Pungy was a tiny kitten, so small and all gray.
Mumsy loved her immediately
Little Punge and Cat Daddy Junior, every day
Love to play

Then, much to our dismay,
Little Pungy fell out of the window.
Mumsy cried till finally Pungy came home
In the family way.

Pungy had, after her foray,
Three little kittens that had a lot to say
As food dishes began to look like a buffet,
Mumsy's love did never sway.

Piewhackits, Sneaky Pie and Odysseus
Joined our family on their birthday.
As each furry life, to here found their way,
Our Mumsy said Mo Cats, Mo Cats! Are very okay!

Our Mumsy had a little kitty...
One that was a stray...

NaBloPoMo Post 2 – Favorite Author

This is my NaBloPoMo Post for Tuesday, August 2, 2011

Today’s Prompt:  Who is your favorite author?

My first response to this question is to express how difficult it would be for me to choose just one as a favorite.  But, I wanted a more exact answer than that.

Over the years, as my reading preferences matured and visited various genres, my nominations for favorite author changed with each new venue.  I think I will always pick Agatha Christie and Peter Robinson.  (Never mind the glaring differences in eras.)  There is a list of “classical” authors I could post.  But, since having tried this writing activity myself, I have a new perspective.  I appreciate the “big name” successful authors and I will always have my favorites among them that I will continue to faithfully read.

But my pick for my favorite author is Altonian, to me, he’s Papa Leigh.  He writes the stories and poems I like to read, the ones that make me laugh and the ones that make me cry.  I don’t know why he’s not as famous as any of the celebrity authors.  I figure it’s probably because he spent most of his time working and being a good husband and father to his family first.  He always makes time to listen to me – me with my insecurities, inexperienced and “newbie” questions as I try and put my own words onto paper, or screen as the case may be.  All the while still entertaining his readers with his writing.

You can read what my favorite author writes here Scandic Sequences and here Altonian's Tales.

Something Else

Oh gosh, the things we miss because we are so focused on finding the answer to something else.

A Poem for Thought

I have not been feeling good and my sinuses have been driving me crazy.  My son wrote this poem and would really like some opinions on it.  So please, we’d appreciate knowing what you think of it.  Thank you.

Today Shall Not Live in Infamy

One fine morning like all fine mornings

Misses awoke before her husband and children

Fixed breakfast to their perfection

Mister and Children eat and leave

With his children to school, on his path to work

Air raid sirens begin to blare

Some ran down sidewalks to shelter, many walk

More ignored them as mister did

It’s just another drill

Buttons are pushed, keys are turned, and codes are entered

Huddled around a radio, the west coast is gone!

The lights flicker, thunder is in the distance

Too late it is no longer a drill

A flash of light and eternity is reached

Infamy is eradicated

3 Word Wednesday - CCXLV

This week, the words are: grip, prefer, thread. Finally, I have this.

My grip on his hand - His grip on my shoulder - my grip on reality. I follow this fragile thread of sanity. What do I do without him? This must be some kind of mistake - a bad cosmic joke. Why am I still breathing when he is not? No, no thank you, I do not wish to come out and be among the guests. I prefer the silence here, where in the stillness I can still hear his voice.

between aching and sorrow

Maybe, I have found a way to use my poetic voice.

Three Word Wednesday - CCXLIV - My First

This is my first Three Word Wednesday writing. I confess I am quite nervous over it. The three words are: Alter, Fond and Tranquil.

Sitting beside the cool blue tranquil water, her mind drifted.  She thought of time and what had changed since their beginning.  How her heart had raced when she'd realized he was fond of her.  She had been so shy.  He some older, more experienced, and supposedly wiser.  Now, their hair sported shades of gray.  Lines on their faces spoke of past worries, laughter and smiles they'd shared together.  She rested her head on his shoulder.  A leaf floated by smoothly on the calm water.  She could hear his watch softly ticking.  Time, it really does march on, doesn't it?  We change, but it doesn't.  Time passes, our bodies change, so do our thoughts and opinions.  But our love?  Does time alter it?  Yes.  But only to make it stronger and deeper.

Visit Three Word Wednesday to try it yourself, and find other participants. It's a great writing challenge that is fun and will really get you thinking.
